LIGO/Virgo Black Holes from a First Order QCD Phase Transition [CL]

http://arxiv.org/abs/1902.07805

We propose that $O(10 M_{\rm Sun})$ black holes observed by LIGO/Virgo originate from a first order QCD phase transition at a temperature $T_* \lesssim 100$ MeV. This is implemented by keeping the Higgs vacuum expectation value and hence quark masses at zero down to $T\sim T_$, making QCD confinement a first order electroweak phase transition. This electro-strong transition could have interesting ramifications for particle cosmology, as electroweak sphalerons stay active till $T \gtrsim T_$. We realize our scenario through hidden gauge dynamics and a scalar which could potentially be viable dark matter.
